Coherent breathing means breathing 6 times a minute: 5 seconds in, 5 seconds out, most often for 5 minutes.
This slow, steady rhythm is one of the most widely practised breathing exercises for relaxing. Do it sitting up straight, anywhere: at your desk, before an exam or in the evening.

| Breathe in | 5 seconds |
| Breathe out | 5 seconds |
Frequently asked questions
How do I do a coherent breathing session?
Sit down, press Start and follow the circle: breathe in through your nose as it grows, breathe out gently as it shrinks. The session lasts 5 minutes, or 3 or 10 minutes if you prefer.
When should I practise it?
Many people practise it three times a day, for example in the morning, before lunch and late in the afternoon. A single session can also help you calm down before a stressful moment.
Are these exercises safe?
Breathe without forcing. If you feel dizzy or uncomfortable, return to normal breathing. These exercises are not a substitute for medical advice.
