Classroom noise meter: the noise traffic light

Microphone off

The microphone is only used to measure the noise level: nothing is recorded or sent.

Thresholds

A relative level from 0 to 100, specific to this microphone and room: these are not measured decibels.

A noise light for the classroom: green when it is quiet, amber then red as the noise rises, with how long the quiet lasted. Free, no account.

Turn on the microphone: the page shows a green, amber or red light by the classroom’s sound level, and counts how long the quiet lasts. Adjust the thresholds, or set them on the current calm in one click. Sound is analysed on the device, never recorded.

Frequently asked questions

How does the noise meter work?

The browser reads the microphone level several times a second and compares it with the thresholds: green below amber, amber below red, red above. The quiet time restarts when the light leaves green.

Does the microphone record the class?

No. Sound is analysed on the device to get a level; it is neither recorded nor sent.

How do I set the thresholds?

While the class is working quietly, press “Set on the current calm”: amber goes a little above, red higher. You can also move the sliders.

Are the values decibels?

No: it is a relative level that depends on the microphone and the room. It compares the class with itself; it does not measure noise in decibels.
